What's more fun than watching a winter wonderland outside your window? Stitching a Winter Wonderland! This past winter, we joined with a group of twelve talented wool appliqué designers to create a fun mystery sew-a-long for you. Each of the block patterns have been released as a free digital download, and finishing patterns by Mary Jane Carey of Holly Hills Designs are being presented. Additionally, each designer is offering wool kits for purchase, as well as embellishment kits and/or thread kits. Week #6: Baby,It's Cold Outside!

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside!” Because of that, our snowman maker couldn’t fight the temptation of a warm, cozy fire, thus leaving the happy snowman just a bit unfinished. This wintry block is embellished with many charming details—from the glowing fire and snow-topped trees to a basket full of all that is needed to make the snowman complete. Maybe when it warms up a tad, our snowman maker can finish the snowman, or take a turn around the pond with his skates, or maybe even a quick sled ride down the hill. Dimensional wool appliqué, embroidery, and embellishment help you tell this winter wonderland story from a stitching perspective! The finished block size is 12 inches square.

Our wool kit includes background cotton fabric and all wool pieces needed to create our block, many of which where hand-dyed just for this block. Our thread kit includes one skein of Painters Threads hand-dyed pearl cotton #5, two skeins of Valdani pearl cotton #12, and two skeins of DMC floss. The embellishments kit has four buttons: carrot, squirrel, and two skates, with the option of adding a skein of Kreinik metallic thread to sparkle up your fire. Thread kits have limited availability, so act fast! Printed or digital patterns are purchased separately.
