In the Garden
A quilt series by Through the Needle's Eye
These designs were created for our wool Block of the Month series, In the Garden. The blocks can be part of a quilt, or you can use the finished block in any way you would like: a small wall hanging, tablemat, or whatever you and your creativity decide! We have created a quilt with the twelve blocks, but we have also made a few smaller wallhangings with individual blocks. Patterns are available in our web store and include ribbon and special materials to create the blocks, and blogposts for each blog can be found on our blog, Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye.
Please note that when our patterns with ribbon are sold out, they will only be available in digital format. Get them while you can!
Cornflowers are created using hand-dyed silk bias ribbon.
Oak Leaves and Acorns feature stuffed acorns with textured knotted caps.
Violets are created with wired ribbon and a simple ruching technique.
They also make a great wall-hanging!
Cardinals and Holly has been such a popular block, we also created a stocking pattern with the design.
Rose features wired ribbon rosebuds with hand-dyed silk ribbon calyxes.
Robin and Forsythia welcomes spring, with a wool robin perched on branches of silk ribbon forsythia blooms.
Dragonfly and Fern finds an organza and beaded winged dragonfly with a shimmering body perched atop a fern.
Hummingbird and Fuchsia offers a ruby-throated hummingbird flitting among the ribbon fuchsia.
Hydrangeas require no appliqué; each petal is attached with a bead, and the leaves are held fast by the embroidered veins.
Monarch and Butterfly Bush has an embroidered butterfly ready to fly off of the silk ribbon blooms of the butterfly bush.
Garden Gate is flanked by sunflowers, bedecked by a climbing rose vine, and bee skep of bees.
Wheelbarrow of Flowers is filled with black-eyed Susans, salvia, lavender, roses, and daisies. An embroidered goldfinch sits atop the wheel.
I come to the garden, top border, is flanked with wisteria vines created with sari silk ribbon and embroidered blooms.
