MAQ Seminar/Retreat
Gettysburg College, June 4–7, 2026

Class:
Wildflowers

Friday, June 5

Explore the beauty of ribbon embroidery as we create this lovely bouquet of wildflowers. We will learn several ruching techniques with a variety of kinds of ribbons, including wired ribbon and silk bias ribbon. Embroidery with ribbon and thread will be covered as well. Required ribbon kits will be provided ($40) that include all ribbon and thread needed to complete the block, and we will add the background as a bonus. You will only need to bring your basic sewing supplies! To see the supply list, CLICK HERE.

While this one-day class looks like it may be challenging, it is perfect for a stitcher with beginning appliqué and embroidery skills. If you can do a running stitch, you can fashion these stunning ribbon flowers with ease. We promise!

Class:
Vintage Belle

Saturday, June 6

Ever wonder what to do with all those lovely vintage linens you’ve been saving? How about turning those handkerchiefs into dresses, and frame the belle with doilies and lace trims? What a great way to honor those special women who passed those items down to us! We will cover basic appliqué skills needed to create the belle and construct her gown from a vintage handkerchief. Optional handkerchief kits will be available for purchase in class, and we will have some brooches and ribbons as well. To see the supply list, CLICK HERE.

Last year, our Belle was a 2-day class and we embroidered her bouquet; this year we will be focusing on  appliquéing her dress and choosing a brooch or a part of the handkerchief and ribbon for the bouquet. Of course, you will receive the pattern for the embroidery if you choose to create your flowers with thread. This class is for any stitcher with a bit of appliqué experience, but no need to be an expert—you'll be amazed how quickly a hanky becomes a Belle!

Class:
Flutterby Butterfly

Sunday, June 7

This lovely purple butterfly is brought to life with simple embroidery stitches placed throughout to create a whimsical look. It would make a lovely small wall hanging by itself, or add a border to complement the embroidery. In class, we will introduce wool appliqué techniques, and teach a variety of stitches used to embroider the butterfly. To see the supply list, CLICK HERE.

This is the perfect class for someone who wants to learn basic appliqué and embroidery skills. Handwork made simple for the beginner, or anyone who loves butterflies! No experience necessary to join this fun!
